Palazzina Pusterla Busca Pozzi known as “Ca’ Granda” (Big House)

Confiscated from the Pusterla family by Gian Galeazzo Visconti in order to present it to the Certosa di Pavia when it would be turned into a grange, the building is a fortress-house with a tower and farm buildings built entirely in terracotta brick. Inside the courtyard of the Ca’ Grande farm complex there is the manor, the finest example of a 15th century residence which was probably originally a hunting lodge. Other constructions were built in the second half of the 19th century such as porticos, henhouses, a dairy with adjacent pigsty and a bread oven. This was the typical layout of a Lombard corte, composed of the farmyard and threshing yard surrounded by building which close them in and defend them. Today it is a heritage property protected under law as a State Monument. It is now a farm with livestock and cereal crops. The animals are fed with natural feed. Unpasteurised milk is sold directly to the public through an automatic vending machine and the farm also sells cheeses, homemade cured meats, beef and pork.
