Castle

Buc.1

The origins of the building are uncertain. The oldest part would appear to date back to the end of the 14th century, while the castle we see today was built between the 15th and 16th centuries. The Castle seems to be mid-way between a defensive fortification and a summer home where the nobility could spend their leisure time. It is a square-shaped construction on two storeys, its solid austere aspect accentuated by the presence of few windows on the east and west sides and its south-facing side (entrance from the inner courtyard) quite sober and linear in style. The north face makes a decisive break with the monolithic scheme, opening in two series of arches, one on the ground floor, the other on the first floor, looking towards the city. The ground floor portico has five arches, the one above ten. The ground floor is cut in half, along the north-south axis, by a room which unites the two sides of the building and makes the other spaces of this storey independent. The first floor rooms have coffered ceilings. The castle is currently in private ownership and part is a residence.
