Church of Sant Ambrogio

Lon.1

In 1499, when the previous Romanesque chapel was knocked down, Sant’Ambrogio was rebuilt on an octagonal plan in the style of Bramante, possibly to a design by Antonio da Lonate, an architect who was also active in Milan and elsewhere. Only part of this church has survived, the apse of the present day church, with the half-dome decorated with frescoes from the 16th century. In 1560 the church was extended with the addition of the nave which turned it into quite a substantial building for those times.
