Rubone Watchtower

In the area of Rubone, towards Castelletto di Cuggiono, there is a 15th century watchtower along the Naviglio Grande. This served to control the waterway along the banks of which homes sprang up as well as the church of Santa Maria della Pace, built in the 16th century by Tommaso Crivelli as a pledge to be assigned a third of the property of the rectory of San Giorgio. Renovated in the 18th century, the tower fell into ruin and the lovely Renaissance fresco of the Madonna with Child was purloined. In Rubone there were also archeological finds from the 5th century B.C. Dating back to the late Golasecca Culture.
