Villa Porro

Villa Porro is one of the oldest stately homes in Lonate Pozzolo. The “Status Animarum” or Parish Register of 1574 shows it to be one of the many properties belonging to the Della Croces, an ancient noble family in the Lonate area. From the 18th century, the villa passed to an ancient Milanese house, the Porros, who used it as their country residence. The building is horseshoe-shaped with the main house, the oldest part, situated on Via Roma, recognisable from the Lombardy yellow facade and a brick red building closing off the “U” which housed the stables, granaries and hay barns. The presence of the lemon-house and a boundary wall between the main courtyard and the farmyard doubles the horseshoe layout and clearly separates the spaces used by the servants and the nobility. Villa Porro is the result of a number of overlapping architectural interventions over the years to satisfy the changing requirements of the farm or the personal tastes of the owners. Between 1994 and 1997 conservation work was carried out on the reception rooms, courtyards and the parklands and transformed Villa Porro into a versatile structure suitable as a stunning backdrop for events of various kinds such as conventions, meetings, weddings, receptions, fashion shows, exhibitions and concerts.
