The Navigli System has strong rural connotations: farming traditions are deep rooted in the area but until recently, finding survival hard in the modern urban world. Now the traditional eating habits of the Lombard region are becoming increasingly well-known, there is a growth of interest in local produce and more traditional Milanese dishes which are appearing more often in menus in restaurants and agritourism farmhouses.
Navigli Golosi is an initiative to make the most of the great wine and food heritage of the Navigli. Launched by Navigli Lombardi in collaboration with EPAM (Milan branch of the association for businesses serving the public), Coldiretti (the farmers’ association) and local associations (Consortium of towns on the Navigli),
it has scheduled a full calendar of events all over the area of the Navigli with Farmers’ Markets where the public can buy food directly from local producers, and restaurants signed up to the initiative offering traditional local cuisine at particularly appetising prices.
